Kara Jesella is a feminist scholar based in New York City and a Fellow of the London Centre for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism. Her book Feminist Antisemitism: An Intellectual History, out from Routledge in June 2026, establishes the surprising antipathy towards Jews, Jewish women, and Israel that existed even as the women’s movement began and tracks how changes in feminist in-groups and theories produced new, feminist-inflected forms of antisemitism and antizionism that have since been exported to the rest of the Left. She has lectured on feminist antisemitism at Harvard University, the University of Haifa, and at the ISGAP-Cambridge Summer Institute for Curriculum Development in Critical Contemporary Antisemitism Studies at Churchill College, University of Cambridge, among other venues. She has a PhD and an MA in Performance Studies from New York University, where she was the Managing Editor of Women & Performance: a journal of feminist theory, and a BA in Women’s Studies and English from Vassar College. A former journalist, she has written for The New York Times, Tablet, Quillette, Ms., and many other publications, and authored a cultural history of Sassy magazine that was published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
