Connecting online hate speech to offline events
Gunther Jikeli, Erna B. Rosenfeld Professor of the Borns Jewish Studies Program and the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism and associate professor of Germanic Studies, discussed his study of online hate speech and how it relates to actions and events in the offline world in an article for the IU Research Impact website following the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Students research ways to counter antisemitism in social media
Many Americans were shocked at the anti-Jewish rhetoric on display this month at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. But not IU Bloomington faculty member Günther Jikeli and the students who took his contemporary antisemitism course in spring 2017.
Research report to the U.S. Department of State "Best Practices to Combat Antisemitism on Social Media"
The report was prepared for the U.S. State Department as part of the Diplomacy Lab initiative, a cooperation between Indiana University and the U.S. Department of State and its Office of Religion and Global Affairs. It is based on research by students of the Spring 2017 course “Contemporary Antisemitism in Sociohistorical Perspectives” at Indiana University under the guidance of Günther Jikeli with the assistance of David Axelrod.
